Includes information about the owners from the corresponding Federal Census Population free schedules. Identifies "Free Black" households and households including people identified as "Indian. Includes statistics derived from both the free and slave census Schedules.

Jackson County, Missouri in Black and White: Volume II - Jabez Smith: His Slaves, Plantations, Estates and Heirs by Annette Curtis. 552 p. ill., ports. Name and selected subject indexing. The largest slaveholder in Jackson County MO died between 1850 and 1860. Smith's probate records contain the names of his 311 slaves in family groups. Some historical information about both black and white families is included. Includes transcriptions of the guardianship records of two minor heir, Jabez Smith Jr. and John T. Smith. Slaves given to each heir are recorded. Some birth and deaths are noted. Includes medical bills and things purchase for the use of the slaves.
